The artist has given the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the trust for venues, which functions to save the United Kingdom's grassroots music venues.

The star was awarded the award on mid-October as his latest record his work was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

Fender has decided to give the cash to the MVT, in recognition of the vital role local spots played in his beginning days.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," stated the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, top acts like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits local stages.

He also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to support 38 small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation assisted locations that were facing imminent closure due to issues caused by water damage, fires and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and noise complaints.

Other venues received funding support in improving facilities and technical equipment that directly benefitted performers and fans.

"The idea that revenue from concerts in big venues helps the smaller venues, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

The musician is far from the only musician to donate his award winnings to good deeds.

When Pulp received the award in the year 1996 for their record Different Class, vocalist Jarvis Cocker declared that the group would donate their prize money to the organization War Child.

During 2002, musician Ms Dynamite shared her bounty between several charities, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also contributed a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked updated gear," she told a publication.

In recent years, the band contributed their winnings to the youth organization that nurtured their group, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally winners that year M People gave their winnings to a charity for MS after a friend was identified with the condition.

"Winning was ample," remarked singer Heather Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we could do without the bonus, because we had the honor. So our victory affected somebody else's life."

Last week, the MVT shared it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in the city and The Croft in that location were acquired under the community ownership scheme, which is backed by the arts council and supporters who acquire "stakes" in the buildings.
