Senate Passes Legislation to Make Public Epstein Files

The upper chamber of Congress on Tuesday passed without delay to a measure that will force the release of official records related to the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a overwhelming vote in the lower house and a reversal by the president and his GOP allies. Trump's team gave in after an extended period of trying to forestall the cross-party initiative involving a case that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Swift Passage in Both Chambers

The Senate acted by consensus, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a recorded vote, expediting the process. Earlier that day, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a near-unanimous vote.

Citizens have waited long enough. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have suffered long enough,” Chuck Schumer said in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before urging the chamber to pass it unanimously. “Reveal the truth. Let transparency reign.”

Presidential Signature

This legislation next will be sent to Trump for his endorsement. The president indicated on the previous day that he would endorse the legislation.

Even though the president has for an extended period downplayed the outcry over the authorities' approach of the investigation as a “Democrat hoax”, he voiced approval for the measure over the weekend, and said he would approve it if it comes to him.

Reaction

The Democratic party, along with those affected and their advocates who were seated in a viewing area, broke into applause after the bill was approved. The sole “no” vote came from a GOP representative, who said he worried the measure would reveal identifying details of individuals involved, persons of interest and others implicated in the investigation.
