Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of heroes who will split off from the central cast to begin their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the region and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could assist the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Fans can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
